Appeal

‘St Mary’s at Wreay is one of the most
original and interesting churches
you could wish to see.’

Barrie and Wendy Armstrong.
The Arts and Crafts in the North West of England

The church community continues to look after the fabric of Sara’s church but inevitably time and the elements have taken their toll. The heavy sandstone roof slabs are slipping as their timber peg fixings decay, allowing rain in and only temporary plastic sheeting prevents further damage.

Thanks to the generosity of many people the restoration of the roof has begun and further restoration work to the interior will be carried out during the coming months. The internal walls will be stripped of peeling paint and a new heating system will be installed. The lighting is also in need of updating and this will be carried out if funds allow.

Sarah Losh had a strength of vision which inspired a building that is still appreciated and enjoyed today. We hope that you will be able to help the restoration appeal so that future generations will also be inspired.

Donations to:
Wreay Parochial Church Council,
c/o the Treasurer, Lynn Jones,
Lynwood, Wreay, Carlisle, Cumbria CA4 0RL.
